Legal Question in Business Law in Texas
Non-Profit Organization
We wish to collect and distribute stuffed toys to children both in the US and throughout the world. We wish this to be a Christian mission and want to know if there are any laws we should be aware of in order to do this. Do we need to apply for a non profit status or can we just proceed on our own.

Re: Non-Profit Organization
You should apply to the IRS for a non-profit exemption, otherwise donations are taxable as income to you. You'd probably be in a better position if you also filed with the Secretary of State in Texas as a non-profit corporation.
Check with the various federal agencies, such as the Commerce Department and the State Department as to limitations concerning the shipment of children's toys overseas.
