A DBA (or assumed name certificate) will not protect you or your husband from the debts and obligations of the business. Because almost all entities types provide their owners with liabilty protection, I generally recomend using an entity when conducting business. It is a small price to pay for the liabilty protection you receive. There are many different types of entities that can provide you with personal protection from the liabilties of the entity. Without knowing the details of your financial situation or the proposed business, I couldn't recommend one entity over another. However, limited liabilty companies (LLC) and corporations (Inc.) are very popular entity choices in Texas.
