Legal Question in Business Law in Texas
paying a bill with cash
Is it illegal for a company to refuse ''cash'' as payment for their services? I ran out of checks and went to Aqua Services - Klein PUD to pay my bill in person. They refused to accept cash and told me that I would have to go to the Shell gas station next door and purchase a money order from them. Then they would accept my bill with payment. Scam?

It may be that they simply do not want do deal with the issue of their employees handling actual cash currency. Checks are considered cash equivalents. If you have internet access, the easiest way to pay your monthly bills is to open a bank account with a bank that has free online check services. This allows you to schedule when payments will be sent so that they will always arrive on time but not before enough money is put into your account. I use Chase.com but there are many now days.

It's not really illegal. I assume they have a reason for the "no cash" policy.
