Legal Question in Business Law in Texas

Pretending to be an attorney

I believe I have a person that is trying to pretend to be an attorney, that may not be, to make us try and pay a customer for services that we are not responsible for. Is there any way to fing a complete list of all attorneys that are state bar registered? and also should this be found to be a bogus person selling himself as an attorney, is there legal recourse for me to go after this man?

Re: Pretending to be an attorney

A list of licensed attorney may be found at mytexasbar.com. You can type in the name and see if the person has ever been licensed as an attorney. You could report the person to the local police as impersonating an attorney for criminal charges. If he is impersonating an attorney to collect a debt, that would be a violation of state and federal debt collection practice laws. How are you prepared to prove that this person is impersonating an attorney? When asked, I'm sure he will deny any misrepresentation or contend that it was a misunderstanding.
