Legal Question in Business Law in Texas
Using a quotation in a work of art
I am considering painting some inspirational quotes on my artwork. The quotes would be some that I have heard from speakers at conferences for the network marketing company I am also a consultant for. If i sell these works of art or mass produce prints of the paintings, is there a copyright issue? Do I need to get permission to use the quotes? I just need to know what I need to do before selling a work of art that included a quote from someone else.

Re: Using a quotation in a work of art
A speech isn't usually copyrighted, unless it's a canned speech much in the nature of a stage performance. To be on the safe side, I'd ask the speakers for permission to quote them. That covers you in the event they have a copyright.
