Legal Question in Business Law in Texas

I want to start my own home typing business in Texas. Do I have to apply for a business license and register my business? What can I do if I cannot afford this license right now? Can I just start the business and when I get the money, go and apply for the license and register the business. The business would involve typing papers for students and other professionals.

You don't need a license to go into the kind of business you're talking about. You might want to go to the County Clerk's office and spend $20 on an assumed name certificate; I assume that you'll have a special name for your business (other than your legal name), something like "Typing Pro."

One does not "register" a business in Texas; the assumed name ("dba") certificate is the closest we come to registering a business.
