What is the procedure for registering a trademark and where can this be done ?

State trademarks are registered with the Secretary of State. If you contact them, they'll send you the forms.
Federal trademarks, which cover all of the US, are filed with the Patent & Trademark Office. You'll want to contact an intellectual property lawyer to handle that, since it is an adversarial process. Look under "Patents" for patent attorneys, not under "Attorneys".
