Legal Question in Business Law in Texas
Wage cuts
The company I work for is having a hard time getting started. On payday they announced we needed to take a cut in paid to help the company pay some bills. The problem I have is the cut was retroactive to the beginning of the pay period. The date I signed to take a pay cut was 9/10/04, but the cut started 8/29/04. If I would have known I was working for 25% less than I was making 2 weeks ago, I would have quit then. I feel I had no choice. The company called me in to talk about the cut at 4:00 p.m. on payday Friday. I got my check at 5:00 p.m. with the cut. I thought the cut should begin on the next pay period verses being retroactive. Is this a legal practice being used by my employer or do I have any recourse.

File a complaint for withheld wages with the Texas Employment Commission. Then find another job.
