Wrongful Termination
Hi. I was terminated from my job today where I was Asst. Manager. The termination was due to the fact that I did not come in on my day off to relieve a scheduled manager. Now, is it just me, or is firing someone for not coming in on their day off wrong? I told her I would come in, but of course I was upset because I already had plans. She called me back to tell me that it was covered and then fired me the next day. Can you please provide some clarity to this situation as I have a 26 day old son that is in jeopardy here due to this. Please let me know what I can do about this. Thanks

Texas is what is referred to as an "employment at will" state meaning the the employer does not have to have any reason at all to fire an employee.
The only exceptions are (1) where there is a specific employment contract for a term such as a one-year or more contract (such as football coaches ordinarily), (2) where an employee is fired for refusing to perform an illegal act, (3) illegal discrimination based upon race, religion, gender, or age, (4) a union contract which may provide for certain protections, or (5) a governmental employee with civil service protections or due process protections.
Because you have not mentioned any of the above exceptions, I will assume that your question is answered in the first paragraph above.
