Legal Question in Civil Rights Law in Texas
My boyfriend and I got into an argument and he manhandled me. I called 911 in an effort to just get him to leave, not to press charges. Unbeknownced to me, they had me fill out paperwork that I found out later was me actually pressing charges. He left that day however, the next day, he was still in my neighborhood, the police stopped him then proceeded to search him only to find drugs. They then arressted him. My question is, did they have a legal right to search him for just walking around in the neighborhood?

It would take knowledge of more facts to answer that question. But a search requires probable cause to believe the person is committing an offense, carrying an illegal item or substance, poses a danger, etc. BUt "just walking around the neighborhood", no. A lot depends on what you told the cops in the "paperwork."
