Legal Question in Civil Rights Law in Texas

civil rights

my boyfriend went to the carrollton, tx dmv to renew his liscense. the dmv clerk told him that they could not verify his information regarding his social security number. when my boyfriend asked what the information was that didn't match up the clerk had a city police officer arrest my boyfriend saying he was using a false social number. my boyfriend is hispanic. he is very ethnic looking and has a heavy accent. the city of carrollton and farmers branch are well known for their intolerance of 'supposed' illegal immigrants. when my bf asked why he was being arrested neither the clerk or the officer would explain to him. the charges were dropped in court because my boyfriend proved that the social was his and has been his for 21 years (he's 31). my question is, was his arrest out of line? He was horribly humiliated and was depressed for weeks. he didn't want to leave the house because he was worried he'd be arrested again for no reason. was there enough probable cause to take him to jail?

Re: civil rights

Doesn't sound like there was. Maybe you should head to a big city and find a lawyer there who will be outraged enough to bring a federal suit for false arrest and unlawful imprisonment.

Good Luck.
