Slander and defamation are basically civil lawsuits to recover money because someone maliciously spread rumors about you which are untrue and which caused you economic loss. If you think you have been the victim of such behavior contact a Personal Injury Attorney in your town. Your local Bar Association can recommend some if you don't know any.

Presuming that you do know what defamation is and you are correct that you have been defamed, what you can do is to sue the offender in Small Claims Court for as much as Five thousand dollars ($5,000.00)or if you have greater damages, find an attorney and sue for more than that amount. The laws of defamation are what govern this situation.
