Legal Question in Civil Rights Law in Texas
Discrimination
I wish to know if I have a solid case for a civil lawsuit against my previous employer. There was a recent layoff and my partner and I were the first ones to be let go and I feel it was because of the events that followed both of us getting written up in the previous week the owner found out that we were gay and he felt offended by that. Do I have a case?

Re: Discrimination
There is no Texas or broad federal statute protecting homosexuals from discrimination. If you work for the federal government, or in certain cities, there may be local ordinances that apply. In general, though, it is not unlawful to discriminate against gays in employment.
