Legal Question in Civil Rights Law in Texas
Is it legal for a business to record conversations of employees?
1 Answer from Attorneys
In most situations, the employer would need consent from the employee. However, be aware MANY large firms in Texas do this, especially oil companies. Some have a clause in their employee manual you signed when you were first hired that allow them to monitor and record internal and external phone calls. One I know off, has an entire department to listen in 100% and massive expensive big-brother machines that automatically scan through recordings looking for certain key words.
However, if there is no consent and it was a secret recording of a personal call, you may have had your legal rights to privacy violated. Talk to a lawyer if it is specific and meant to injure and did cause you injury or damages!
