Legal Question in Civil Rights Law in Texas

Petitioning a city council to stop an action

I live in a small Texas town. I'm not sure of the type of

government we have but we have a mayor and city council

persons. The population of our little town is less than

2000 folks. My question is this how can I petition to stop

an action by this council(they intend to hire a ''Code

Inforcement Officer'') and how many signatures do I need to

force this issue to be decided by a vote of the people of

our town. I need to move on this pretty quick and any help

anyone can give me would be greatly appr

Re: Petitioning a city council to stop an action

You could check with the city to see what the requirements are to call a referendum. A referendum is a principle or practice of submitting to popular vote a measure passed on or proposed by a legislative body or by popular initiative. You should be able to search the Internet to find more information about referendums but check with a local attorney to see if he recommends something in addition.
