Re: two of them

Assault by contact is a class (c) misdemeanor and is punishable by a fine only.

Assault that causes bodily injury which is any sensation of pain is a class (a) misdemeanor and has a punishment range up to a year in jail and up to a $4,000.00 fine and is not a felony either.

Assault that causes serious bodily injury is a felony of the second degree and has a punishment range up to twenty years in prison and a $10,000.00 fine.

District Attorney's in Texas are elected. There are times when one can be appointed under certain circumstances.
