Recorded phone conversations
Are phone conversations that are taped admissable in a court of law if one of the parties does NOT know that they are being taped?

In Texas, yes. As long as not disqualified on other grounds, such conversations can be admissable. It is not unlawful to record any conversation to which you are a party, even if the person with whom you are having the conversation is unaware that it is being recorded.

Under certain situations phone conversations can be recorded if all parties do not know of the conversation. The issue of whether the evidence is admissible in court is entirely different, and depends upon the facts of the case and what the recording is intended to demonstrate. Here's a website that may have some information for you, but I don't vouch for it's accuracy at all. I just found it and it seems fairly well-written, giving a state-by-state description of state and federal laws, the requirements, and penalties that may apply.
