Legal Question in Civil Rights Law in Texas

Being a single attractive woman I had reservations about relocating to a small town, however after finding employment after being unemployment for two years, i made the move and to a beautiful 2nd story garage apt. All was well until an ex boyfriend found out and started problems. He called police telling them i sold drugs. The police came to my new home and in front of neighbors and friends accused me of untruths. They detained, interrogated, searched and continue to harass my friends who were visiting. They lied saying they had proof I sold drugs. They have basically ruined my reputation in this town. I lost my job, the police continue to follow and harass my friends that had visited and ones who had visited prior that day, neighbors stop my visiting friends telling them I sold drugs, one even went as far as put up several expensive audio video surveillance cameras, one of which he installed on his roof to specifically aim directly into my home. I feel violated!!! I have physically and mentally withdrawn, I stay locked in my home and that is not a normal life. I can no longer allow them to do this to myself nor my family. What kind of rights do i have as their victim in this blatant abuse? I'm mortified at the lack of respect and decency in this areas law enforcement. What steps should I take to legally stand up against theses bullies? I ask you because I will no longer back down, taking this abuse in front of my small children, whom Ive taught to stand against bullies, and to stand tall beside the wronged and abused.

You can always sue the police. I doubt that you could get a lawyer to take the case for a contingent fee, though.

You have the right to represent yourself in federal court.

Consider writing a letter (paper letter - keep a copy) to the chief of police and detail exactly what's been happening to you - dates and times - names - as much detail as you can put into it. Send copies to the Attorney General and to the local newspaper.
