Legal Question in Technology Law in Texas
6 months ago a friend informed of refurbished laptops for sale of $200 each. I bought 4 and resold for $300 each. Today I just found out 1 of those laptops was reported stolen. I informed the owners of the 3 other laptops to return to me for refund. Should I go police and explain myself? Am I at risk for criminal investigation?

Yes, you should go to the police. That will let them know you are not a "fence" for stolen laptops and want to cooperate. If they have to come to you, it means you are already under investigation. Don't delay. A "friend" who "informed" you of something like this is no friend, unless you actually knew what was going on, which from the price you would be foolish not to suspect. Better tell the police what a fool you are, as otherwise they will think you are part of a criminal enterprise and that could have serious consequences for you.
Next time post this under criminal law not computer law. There is nothing special about this being a computer, fencing a stolen super low price watch would pose the same risks.
