Legal Question in Technology Law in Texas
A competitor is claiming that they have the copyright to a domain name and had an attorney call to take down the site. The competitor has a generic domain name such as chicagoplumbing.com and I own chicagoplumbers.com. Do they have a case?

Maybe. You should consult with a lawyer about this, since the answer will depend on the specifics.
Good luck.
In all probability, the URL is not copyrighted, so there would not be a copyright infringement claim. But under trademark law, the owner of the TM "Chicago Plumbing" might have a valid trademark infringement claim against someone using "Chicago Plumbers" in commerce, or using the URL chicagoplumbers.-whatever, but the devil is in the details. It may be well worth checking with a trademark lawyer.
