Legal Question in Technology Law in Texas

Using data from a competitors website?

I want to start a website that finds the lowest price for the textbooks used by each of my school's courses. In order to do this, I have to find out what each of the courses are for a semester, and what textbooks they use. To do that, I have to harvest the data from the school bookstore's website. I was just wondering if that was legal. (Note: I don't intend to do any hacking, just gathering public data)

Re: Using data from a competitors website?

I don't see a problem with it, provided that its data that you could obtain through merely going to the bookstore and either asking for it or observing what books they're stocking for the coming semester. Its not proprietary information of the competitor. Hope this helps.
