Legal Question in Constitutional Law in Texas

Jury Summons Exemption

If my permanent residence is in Houston and I am on a 9-month contract assignment in Australia, what do I do if my wife calls me and tells me I have a Jury Summons in the mail in Houston?

Is there some kind of EXEMPTION that states if someone WORKS and LIVES 100+ miles from their permanent residence they are exempt?

Re: Jury Summons Exemption

No, but courts are reasonable about such things, and situations like yours come up all the time. The Houston courts probably have a form you can fill out asking for an extension, explaining why you cannot serve now and stating when you expect to be available. In the unlikely event that there is no standard form, you (or your wife) should check with the clerk's office to see what you need to do. Unless your scheduled jury service has already passed there shouldn't be any problem getting a postponement.
