Legal Question in Construction Law in Texas
Incomplete job and stop-paid checks on my part
I hired a crew to tear out my back deck and pour a concrete patio. They were to also install pavestone retaining walls around my flower beds and pull off the wooded walls that existed. The bid was $1,825 and I buy the pavestone. The pavestone was deliveered and the job has been a nightmare. The patio looks like a child did the job and I am very unhappy. The owner and I have had words several times and he said that he lost money on me and will not spend anymore money. I wrote him three separate checks. 1,000, 500 and 325. I stop paid the last two until we can come to an agreement. We have no contract. What are my legal rights?

Re: Incomplete job and stop-paid checks on my part
One avenue would be to file in Justice Court for breach of contract since the disputed figure is under $5000. If you don't want to do that yourself, you should contact an attorney to handle the matter for you.
