Legal Question in Construction Law in Texas
plumber caused black water damage
We built a new house moved in 5 months ago. Turns out the plumber didn't put a plug into the pipe that leads from the master bath down the living room wall. We now have black water damage. The builder and plumber keep telling us that they want to repair the hole in the sheet rock and steam clean the carpet. There is mold on the studs and on the floor I can't even imagine what the floor looks like under the carpet. What should we do? Anyone with advice please let me know.

Re: plumber caused black water damage
First off contact your insurance company, if you haven't already done so. They may also be able to recommend a company or two that specializes in the remediation of these problems.
It is evident that a fair amount of sheetrock will have to be removed to determine the extent of the damage, as well as lifting the carpeting. The area where the black water seeped is going to have to be disinfected with a bacteriacide as well.
If anyone claims to be a specialist in mold remediation, check them out with your local better business bureau.
