if you are being sued for work not finished on a renodeling job, and you don't show up for the hearing, what is done to the person being sued?

Re: being sued
You could legally get screwed to the wall. If the 'hearing' is the trial, then all the judge hears is the complaining party, and a default judgment will issue, giving the complaining party everything they're asking for.
If the 'hearing' is a court-ordered appearance, and you fail to show, the judge may issue a 'body writ' ordering the sheriff to pick you up and hold you in jail until the judge gets around to you or you post bail.
Re: being sued
It will be as if you do not have anything to say in your defense.
If you do not contest it, then you should try to work it out and not tie up the court. Otherwise you may have to pay more, court costs, etc...
If you do contest it, consider speaking with an attorney.
