Re: Abstract of judgement

An abstract of judgment is good for ten years, and can be re-asserted every ten years, keeping an abstract in force indefinitely. It attaches to any real property the judgment debtor acquires or owns in the county where it's filed.

The abstract of judgment can't force sale of the homestead, but lenders or others may require the discharge of the judgment lien before they'll put up any money; i.e. equity loans or propety sales.
