Legal Question in Consumer Law in Texas
Can an apartment community make you live in their community without giving you an opportunity to buy out the lease before you move into it? My daughter signed a lease in December 2009 to live in a community in the fall of 2010 and has since changed her mind. I told the complex I wanted to pay a fee and break the lease, but they said,"no", I would have to find someone to re-let the apartment. Is this legal?

You need to sit down and read the lease throughly or have an attorney read it. Apartment complexes can have different variations as to what happens if you break the lease.
I am not sure the provision is there to force you to live there would be a proper one.
Re-letting is a way to mitigate damages but they should share some responsibility as well.
