Legal Question in Consumer Law in Texas

Auto lien released before I paid it off

I recently purchased a car and before I made my first payment I received a letter saying I paid it off and the title with the lien release signed? I never paid a dime. Normally this happens when the note is paid off. Did someone make a huge mistake? Anyway, thats my guess but what recourse does the bank have if I choose not to pay or they never ask for a payment? Did I just get a free auto?

Yes. Someone made a huge mistake. Do you have to pay for the car? Sure you do. That was the agreement that you made right? The paperwork that you received can be reversed easily. You might score some points with the bank or finance co. if you pointed out the error to them. See if you can get a free payment or a free toaster. Good Luck.
