Legal Question in Consumer Law in Texas
Auto Repair Shop Fraud
Hello:
I went to an auto repair shop to have my A/C recharged. The car started to run really rough afterwards and I immediately returned. They informed me to bring it back the next business day for more diagnostics. The next business day when I brought it back, they diagnosed that I had a bad compressor and advised purchasing it and a receiver/dryer unit. I felt uncomfortable with only one opinion so, I went to a shop that I frequent. They purged and refilled the system and said that it had been overcharged by 11 ounces! I called the service manager of the first repair shop and told him of the potential costly repairs he could've caused and told him I'd like a partial refund of the money I'd spent there. He said that he could only offer a coupon for a free oil change.
Would I have a case for small claims court or would it be even worth it? I paid them $173.00.
Thanks!

Re: Auto Repair Shop Fraud
You could get a refund for the misdiagnosis if they charged you for that service. Is it worth it? That's an economic call, not a legal call.
