Legal Question in Consumer Law in Texas

bad mechanic

I took my car to a mechanic in February to have the motor rebuilt, I was told It would take about 3-4 weeks. It is now approaching the end of April and It is still not fiished. On several occasions I have stopped in to see how it is going and i March I was told that the Mechanic that was working on it was in jail. I was told that all that needed to be done was the wiring. last week I stopped in and was told that they started it and something went wrong with the motor. The mechanic that I originally hired has not worked on it but instead has had people that are in jail for drugs and drinking. This car was to be redone for my son and I a concerned about having someone with that kind of a record working on the car. The man that was suppose to work on it owns Napa auto and is well known in the community, since february Napa has closed. Is there any way i can get my car back, do i have to pay for the work that has been done even though it does not run. it ran when I took it there. had a slight knock. but it was drivable. How do I go about getting my car. I am to pay 3000 for the rebuild, when finished. he has had it 3 months and it is in worse shape than when I took it in. what can I do?

Re: bad mechanic

You certainly have the right to demand the car be returned to you in the same or as close to the same condition as possible as you brought it to them. You also probably have a decent breach of contract claim against them. You should contact an attorney to write a demand letter for you. Let me know if you would like my assistance.
