Is a no break contract legal in Texas?

I have a fitness club membership that I needed to cancel due to financial circumstances. The contract is for 12 months. However, I was told that I can't cancel the contract unless the club goes bankrupt/moves away, I move away beyond 25 miles or I die/become disabled. I was under the impression that I could cancel anytime. I was wondering if it is legal to be held bound to a contract that doesn't allow for cancellation due to circumstances out of my control.

When you sign a contract you become bound to that contract, unless the contract specifically states the circumstances under which it may be terminated early. I've never seen a contract where, "I can't afford it..." was grounds for breaking it.
