Legal Question in Consumer Law in Texas
I took over car payments, then the seller went bankrupt
An acquaintace purchased a car from a dealership, but could not keep up the payments. I took over the payments for him and took posession of the car. We had a written agreement stating the terms/length of payments.
Six months after I took over payments, he declared bankruptcy and had to return the vehicle to the dealership.
Do I have any legal recourse for recovering the payments I made to him (approx. $3,000)?

No. He's in bankruptcy! That wipes out all debts occuring before he filed for protection.

No. Obviously, the dealer was not a party to your agreement. Your friend could have taken action to avoid the repo, but apparently didn't.
