Legal Question in Consumer Law in Texas

Cell Phone Contract Modification

While a customer of AT&T Wireless, they changed their terms and conditions policy about canceling service. The contract I signed said nothing about being charged through the end of a billing cycle, but in July of this year, that was changed. When I called due to my being billed for 3 weeks after I switched to another carrier, I was told that it was changed in July. While it is true the July bill had that statement on it, it also mentioned that canceling the account would cost $200. Is that legal? Just wondering if it is worth fighting over. I'm sure I'm not the first person this has happened too and it would be interesting to know if others have had this problem.

Re: Cell Phone Contract Modification

It's legal. Not nice, but legal. There's always a penalty if you cancel your account early.

It's not worth fighting, since the law is on their side. If they have to sue you, they'll also get attorney fees awarded which will be far more than the $200 in issue.

Pay 'em and pass the word about dealing with them.
