Legal Question in Consumer Law in Texas
Taken to the cleaners - by the dry cleaner
I recently took a week's worth of dry cleaning to the cleaners, and was told I could pick my clothes up 2 days later. When I arrived to pick up, I was told the clothes weren't back yet, and to come back the next business day. I arrived once again and was told my clothes were still not back and to come back the next day. When I arrived the next day, my clothes were still not ready, and I was told by an employee that the owner had closed his other 2 stores within the last weeks--name removed--c he had not paid his rent in months. The owner is in the hospital due to stree, I'm told, and no one knows where my clothes are. I was told there had not been a pick up or delivery since the day I dropped off my clothes until yesterday afternoon. My clothes supposedly had never left the facility until yesterday afternoon, and I'm still not convinced anyone knows where my clothes are or if I'll get them back. (Apparently their service hasn't been picking up or delivering due to a lack of payment by the gentleman who owns the store where I dropped off my clothes. Will I see my clothes again? Is there any legal recourse if I do not get my clothes (appx. value = $300) back?
Thank you in advance.
