Legal Question in Consumer Law in Texas
collection
I am dealing with a collection agencey. I told them I can only pay them 10.00 per month on a deliquent hospital bill. They ask me how much was my monthly income...is this legal? I tried to work with them but they said the total amount was due then cut me off while I was still on the phone. I am still paying many doctors and this the best I can do. Thanks

Re: collection
According to the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, you do not have to deal with a collection agency. Tell them to stop calling you. Send them a letter telling them to cease and desist from any and all communications with you, that you prefer to deal with the original creditor as is your right under the FDCPA. Send it certified mail, return receipt requested and send a copy to the origina creditor. Then start making your payments to the original creditor.
