Legal Question in Consumer Law in Texas
contractor missing
I signed a contract with a pool company to install a pool.
That was over a year ago. Since then their web site disappeared and the company name no longer appears in the yellow pages. Their contact number goes to voice mail.
How do I tell for sure if this company went bankrupt or is trying to skip town? Is it by law that I be informed if the company is in bankruptcy court? The work is not finished and not all the money has been paid to the contractor.
Thanks
Joe

Re: contractor missing
More often than not they simply shut down the business and change the name. You can check for bankruptcy by going to the federal courthouse and asking the bankruptcy court clerk.
Have you checked with the Better Business Bureau? Sometimes they have a lead as to where the business may be found.
Have you gone to their address and see what's there?
