Legal Question in Consumer Law in Texas

crooked ac/heating admiral services TX

I was cold called for a service on two furnaces for $69.95. I was out of the house and my husband didn't know about he service call. They told him there was leak on both furnaces and called him up to the attic which smelled of gas - it scared him and he agreed to the $1600 in repair for both furnaces. They are on the BBB in TX for doing this to other clients w/unnecessary repairs. They wouldn't take credit card and asked for a check. I wrote one and they left then I saw all the complaints and am trying to cancel the check. What is my obligation? I will contact another AC/Heating to look at the parts but it sounds like they have done this in the past. Am I obligated to pay?

You could face criminal charges if you stop payment on the check wrongfully. You have no proof of fraud, merely past complaints of fraud. You will need to get another reputable company as an expert, whose testimony will substantiate your suspicions of fraud. Then you can sue them in JP court.
