Legal Question in Consumer Law in Texas

Dealership Liability for Product

I purchased a new 2004 Ford F-150 STX from a Ford dealership. The truck has an aftermarket radio installed by the factory. Upon purchasing the truck and getting ready to drive off of the lot, the two salespeople informed me that they do not know anything about the operations of the radio and I would have to read the manual to figure it out. After reading the manual I could not figure out how to remove the removable-faceplate and set a security code, two features of the radio that help deter theft. Before I could return to the dealership (within two weeks of purchasing the truck) and find someone to show me how to operate the radio and remove the faceplate, the passenger side window was shattered and the radio was stolen in front of my apartment. I had the police come out and take fingerprints and write a report. When I returned to the dealership to ask for the serial number of the radio installed in my truck, the five managers I talked to at the dealership informed me that Ford has never kept the serial numbers of the radios installed by the factory. Well, the radio costs $935 alone to have replaced, not including labor and other repairs. Does Ford have any liability in this situation?

Ford doesn't have any liability. But I'd write directly to Ford about the radio's serial number before I'd take the manager's word that Ford doesn't have the serial number.
