Legal Question in Consumer Law in Texas

Disclosure of social security number

State officials/bodies are biggest souces for identity thiefs. A state entity discloses routinely my soc-sec number available to the public, without editing it. In an employment lawsuit they filed documents where soc sec is displayed prominently in at least 30 different places. I warned them many times, but they simply do not care. Wasn't there a big lawsuit about government disclosing this kind of private information to the public?

Surely some statutes in federal law must be prohibiting this recless attitude of state bodies and officials towards people's privacy.

Wasn't there a big lawsuit with this tneme a little while ago.

If you know pertinent and accurate statutes that regulate (non)disclosure of private information, such as soc sec numbers (or driver licence numbers), please let me know. I know these statutes do exist.

Best,

Ted

There are various ways to deal with this. If you have contact information for the attorney doing this, I could probably get them to correct the problem without having to sue. Feel free to contact me on this.
