Legal Question in Consumer Law in Texas

Financial Terrorism

I was sued by my credit union due to a fraudulent check that was written to me leaving me negative @ 1,500.00 in my account. It's not my fault! How was I suppose to know that it was fraudulent? The credit union should have held the check first before cashing it to see if it was good. There must be a law somewhere that will protect me from the neglegence of the credit union whom fail to protect me as their customer. Please respond.

Re: Financial Terrorism

Unfortunately it doesn't work that way. It's up to you to determine whether a check someone gives you is good or not.

It's usually a good idea to find out from the credit union just how long they can go before letting you know if the check is good or not, so you can wait that period before drawing on the funds.
