Legal Question in Consumer Law in Texas

Hospital bills

Dear MR/Mrs:

In Sep/2005 my DR. Refferred me to a Medical Center here in Austin, TX for a test and my medical insurance pay for it.

In Jan/2006, the same dr. refferred my son to the same Medical Center for the same test, but the same insurance now refuse to cover the charge of about $ 2,500. I called the insurance and was told that their contract with the Med. Center ended on 12/31/2005.The Medical Center billed me the above charge.

What should I do? Before the test, they checked my insurance and my son paid the copay up front. He also signed two paper works about disclosure of personnal info. and financial responsibilities. Thaks a lot for your help. PCT.

Re: Hospital bills

How did the ins. co. notify you and other insureds that the contract ended? Did you recieve some notice or did they tell you they had sent something? Without proper notice as required by the policy, they are responsible for the contracted coverage. Will they admit that - not likely. Will a lawyer take this case for the amount of your charges - also, not likely. However, if the insurance company stiffed the clinic for a bunch of people, the case might have some value. Contact me directly by e-mail if you want to discuss this further.
