hotel keeps suitcase/passport until bill paid
Son, platinum hotelcard member, made hotel reservation for mother only. One free night, pay for other four.At checkout,
son in hospital, mother could not pay bill. Suitcase and passport left in room. Hotel locks room and refuses to allow mother to get suitcase/passport. Can hotel keep suitcase/passport until bill is paid?

Yes. The hotel has a possessory lien on the suitcase, passport, and any other property left in the room, to secure payment of the hotel bill.
