Legal Question in Consumer Law in Texas
Internet service provider extortion
I have moved to an apartment complex in Lewisville, TX. While I could obtain Comcast cable as my ISP, I am told that the apartment complex has a contract with AT&T who is more expensive and provides less service. How am I obligated to use AT&T as an independent consumer? My contract does not state that I forfeit the right to choose my Internet Service Provider. Is this even legal?

Re: Internet service provider extortion
The complex has the right to restrict which provider you use, IF it is contained in your lease.
Have you called Comcast to see if they provide service to your complex? If so, notify the mgmt that you have chosen a different provider. If they tell you cannot, ask them to direct you to the language in the lease you signed which restricts you to AT&T.
