Legal Question in Consumer Law in Texas

Legal Fees Dispute

I retained a lawyer concerning Intelectual Property Law

pertaining to my business. I gave him a $1,500 retainer on

or about October 2003 when I initially made contact with him to secure the trade name of my business. From 10-03 to 9-15-04 I received a letter stating that I have retained him as my lawyer, another letter requesting Durable Special Power of Attorney, a letter outlining the objectives of the case after a meeting we had. This letter was several pages and his facts were incorrect. A meeting was needed to correct his infomation and get the facts correct. Months went by without any communication and I never received a bill. I was under the impression that the $1,500 retainer

was not all spent yet. On 9-15-04 I received a bill for

$8,249.99 less applied ARP (?) of $4,750.00 leaving a balance of $3,499.99. He has send me nothing to support these charges. When I received the bill I called him and told him to stop

working on my case until I can review all the charges. Today I received an empty envelope and an envelope with a bill for additional Service Fees of $70.00 leaving a current balance of $3,569.99. How do I stop incurring fees

and dispute his charges. Please advise. Thank you,

Re: Legal Fees Dispute

Something sure isn't right with a trademark/tradename matter costing that much.
