Legal Question in Consumer Law in Texas
I made an agreement to have a man build me a metal horse barn, and he required $6,000 for the first installment. We had discrepencies from day one, so I told him I could not let him build my barn.He did no work or left no materials at my house. He refuses to give me my $6,000 back.Is there any criminal charges for fraud or theft, etc. that I can use to get my money back.I need it to build with someone else.

The police won't help you with this; they'll tell you "It's a civil matter." Police love to say this; it keeps them from having to do extra work.
You need to sue this guy in the civil courts. Let him prove that he's done $6000 worth of work. I'll bet you he has already spent your money.
If you had a written contract, then his right to keep the money (or his duty to refund part of it) depends on what the written contract says.
