Legal Question in Consumer Law in Texas
A few months ago I had to move in a hurry, I didn't have a place to go so a friends husband offered to let me use a couple of storage units and the storage facility he ran. He told me not worry about paying for the unit and gave me an access code to the gate. I never signed a contract, nor did he ever ask me to. I attempted to remove some of my property recently and found my code locked out, when I inquired why my code was no good, he informed me that my units had been sold to a private person. Everything my children and I own are in those units. I don't really believe he sold the property but is attempting to keep it for himself. What can I do?

Send him a demand letter immediately (a paper letter - don't pick up a telephone). Demand that he make your property available to you on or before a certain date (December 27, let's say) and that he tell you immediately where it is. Include full contact information in the letter - your address, phone number(s), and email address.
Put a date on the letter. Keep a copy of it. Send it by certified mail (postage will be $5.54).
If you don't hear from him on or before the time deadline you've given him, go see your local Justice of the Peace (call first). You can find out which one is "yours" by going online. Then sue his socks off. The filing fee will be around $50.00. The clerks will help you with the lawsuit.
