Legal Question in Consumer Law in Texas
Price gouging?
I hired a contrator to perform some yard sprinkler repairs. He provided no estimates before he performed the work, which included materials and labor. There is no written contract. The invoice I received was much higher than I expected. I contacted several competitors to receive quotes for the type work that had been performed and I discovered he was charging me for labor at a rate more than twice ''reasonable and customary'' for that type work. I do owe him for the work done, but I stongly reject his attempt to charge me at a rate more than twice the standard for this work. I have written him to state my case in writing, but have yet to receive a reply. Total value of the invoice to me is approx $800.00. However, if he refuses to adjust the invoice, what are my options and what risks am I taking in not satisfying his invoice at his price?

Re: Price gouging?
Perhaps..but did you call competitors before or after the work was done? they may be giving lower price now to say "you could have saved with us"..etc..and if not contract..in my opinion..you owe it..
