Legal Question in Consumer Law in Texas
How can I know if my used truck has been wrecked
I bought a real nice, low mileage, truck from an individual supposing to be an elderly lady owner. The first question I asked was, has it ever been wrecked? The reply was (never).I've had it for awhile, and several people have told me that the truck has a slightly difference in the color on the driver side door, than the rest of the truck. and a rattling inside the door cavity like the sound of broken glass. . You can also see the color difference in special lighting. I paid cash money for this truck and now, I'm wondering if the prior owner can be charged for false misrepresention of the vehicle?I would have never bought it had I known it had been wrecked. Is it possibly a chance of finding out through the Texas motor div. in Austin or the prior owners insurance company to get a truthful answer to see if this truck was ever in an accident? Thanks for your time and effort to help all of us who need legal answers to lifes unfair questions. I truly enjoy learning from your Q@A guide. --name removed--in Texas

Caveat Emptor! Buyer beware. Since the seller of the vehicle is not a merchant, civil and criminal statutes relating to to deceptive business practices do not apply. In cases like these it is the buyer's responsibility to do some homework prior to completing the sale. You can ask to have your funds returned and see where that gets you. You can find out a car's accident history on CarFax.com for a fee.
