VIN on car does not match VIN on title

I purchased a collector car from Texas. The car was built in 1969. When I received the car and the title, I found that the VIN printed on the title had one number different than the car's VIN. The title was returned to the dealer and he submitted it for correction. It looks like an innocent typo but I am concerned that the problem may be more substantial. Should I be concerned? Is there anything that I should be doing to protect my interest in this vehicle? Thanks

It may be only a typo, and there may be no problem, however, you can contact the Texas Department of Transportation - their website is online with contact numbers, as well as appropriate FAQ. They will be able to verify the two numbers, as well as whether the dealer has submitted for the changed title. It will at least give you a 'head's up' as to whether it is progressing as you have been told. Good luck.
