Legal Question in Consumer Law in Texas

For many years, I paid premiums to a life insurance company, and as I got older, the premiums were too great, so I canceled the policy (the insurance company has that record). At some time, I received a check from them and then another; not knowing why, I assumed it was a carry over refund, or something. I did not call them, but only deposited the check in my bank. There may have been more than one, but it is not clear. Now, several years later, I was sent a letter by a company which was responsible to pay almos t2 years of premiums for another person and they say premiums were paid into the wrong account, and neither the insured, the company who automatically paid the premiums, or the insurance company bothered to check things out. This was apparently the reason the company sent me the checks. The company responsible to pay the premiums say I should send them $500+ and that I will receive a similar letter from the insurance company asking for refund of money. I have not replied and have not received the insurance company letter. What do you believe I should do? I am almost 80 years old and cannot confirm that amount was received, and doubt it. And further, I do not have records either way. No, the so called insured name was NOT same as mine. The error was fault of company paying premiums - they say they paid into an account, and that account number was same as my old one.

Send them both a letter certified mail, telling them that you have no recollection or knowledge of what they are referring to; and if they made a mistake, and want you to pay for it, they need to prove it.
